THE KINGDOM is a process-oriented body of work emerging from an intensive artistic engagement with the ancient archaeological site of Perre in the former Kingdom of Commagene (southeastern Turkey). The project began with a two-week artist residency at Perre, whose rocks, architectural traces, and complex history fundamentally shape the entire series. The work is concerned with questions of space, memory, and media representation, investigating how the physical and cultural qualities of a place can be artistically transformed—from documentation and collection (The Kingdom I) through sculptural object-making (The Kingdom II) to reflection within the photographic image (The Kingdom III). The three successive parts represent different stages of artistic research that condition and deepen one another.

In this third phase, the folded paper and fabric objects created in the previous stage (The Kingdom II) are photographed in the studio, under controlled lighting and against a black background. The resulting images (Interstellare 01–06) oscillate between sculptural depiction, abstract form, and painterly use of light. They create new two-dimensional worlds, whose spatial illusions, structure, and surface evoke associations with both microscopic and macroscopic landscapes, and thus complete the site’s transformation within the medium of the image. Through this repeated translation and re-contextualization, the work closes a cycle: the boundaries of documentation and abstraction, materiality and perception, memory and imagination are shifted and renegotiated. In this way, THE KINGDOM becomes a visual and conceptual movement—continually reflecting on the historical site, its perception, and its artistic transformation.
